Website measurement

We measure page views, video starts, video completions and clicks on links to individual YouTube videos. This helps us understand whether the website helps people find and watch American Pronunciation Guide videos.

Our measurement database stores the day, the video identifier where applicable, the event type and a broad referring-site category: Google, Bing, YouTube, internal, direct or other. It does not store your IP address, email address, search query or full referring URL. Website measurement uses no cookies or advertising identifiers.

A random identifier exists only for the current page load and helps avoid counting repeated events twice. Deduplication records become eligible for deletion after seven days and are cleared as new events arrive. Aggregate daily counts are retained for comparison over time. Reports are restricted to the site owner.

Optional website measurement is skipped when your browser sends a Do Not Track preference or enables Global Privacy Control. Browser settings and content blockers may also prevent measurement.

YouTube videos and external links

Videos use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced embed domain. The YouTube player and its playback API connect to YouTube, and playing a video or following a YouTube link is subject to Google’s privacy policy. YouTube may process information independently of this website’s measurement. Videos start when you use the player’s controls.

Hosting and owner sign-in

The hosting service may process technical request information to deliver and protect the website. The private report uses ChatGPT sign-in to check that the signed-in account belongs to the site owner. Public pronunciation pages do not require an account.
